Turning overlapping photographs into measurable geometry

Photogrammetry reconstructs a site from hundreds of overlapping aerial photographs. Where a point on the ground appears in several images taken from different angles, its position can be solved in three dimensions. Do that across a whole site and you get an orthomosaic, a surface model and a measurable 3D mesh of exactly how the ground stood on the day it was flown.

The value sits in the measurement, not the picture. Once a site is reconstructed you can pull stockpile volumes, cut-and-fill quantities, distances and areas straight from the model — then compare one capture against the next to show what actually changed.

How it works

Agree the accuracy you need

Absolute accuracy drives every other decision. We establish up front whether the deliverable needs surveyed ground control or whether onboard positioning is sufficient for the job.

Plan the capture

Altitude, image overlap and flight pattern are set from the target ground sample distance and the shape of the terrain.

Fly and control

The site is flown as a systematic grid. Where accuracy demands it, ground control points are placed and surveyed before the flight.

Imagery is processed into the agreed outputs and checked against control before anything is delivered.

Common questions

How accurate is a drone survey?

Almost entirely down to whether ground control is used. With surveyed ground control points, photogrammetric output can meet survey tolerances; without them, accuracy is bounded by the aircraft’s own positioning. We will tell you which approach your project needs before we fly, rather than after.

How is this different from LiDAR?

Photogrammetry reconstructs surfaces from imagery, so it can only model what the camera can see — dense vegetation blocks it. LiDAR pulses can find gaps in the canopy and return ground level underneath. For open sites photogrammetry is usually better value; for vegetated terrain, see Lidar.

How often should a site be re-flown?

On active construction, monthly is common for progress tracking; for stockpile reconciliation it usually follows your reporting cycle. Because the flight plan is repeatable, every capture lines up directly against the last one.
